Wire Binding Services
Wire binding is a widely used book binding method, and is known under a number of names, such as twin loop wire, wire-o and double loop wire. Users of this method will insert their already-punched pages onto a spine that is “C” shaped. Users will then use a wire closer to squeeze the spine until it is round. Books using this method can be laid flat as well as be rotated 360 degrees. Equipment used in this binding method are a binding machine and a wire closer. Users that are smaller in scale will commonly choose a small manual wire binding machine that includes a manual hole puncher and a built in wire closer. Users that are slightly larger in scale will usually opt for a wire binding machine that includes an electric punch and a built in wire closer. Large scale users such as binderies or print shops will usually opt to separate the punching and finishing segments of the binding process to increase productivity. Often, for large scale users, a heavy duty modular interchangeable die punch or a punching system that is automated will be used, as well as either a manual or electric wire closing machine. There are three common patterns used in this binding method
Three to one pitch is most commonly used in binding smaller sized documents. Spines for this style of binding are available in sizes between 4.8mm and 14mm in diameter. Three to one pitch wires do not come in sizes larger than 14. This method can use either square or round holes.
Two to one pitch is most commonly used in binding larger sized documents, although it can also be used in binding books that are smaller in diameter. Two to one pitch wire is commonly found in sizes from 16mm to 32mm. Some manufacturers however, offer small sized two to one pitch wire for binding small documents.
